BMW Logo

The R 18 Classic is a modern cruiser with a nostalgic sense of BMW design. It reminds one of the first BMW cruisers suitable for touring. It also invokes timeless marks of our motorcycle history, such as with the white double pinstripe found on the R 18 Classic First Edition. The heart of the machine is obviously the boxer engine with the most displacement we have ever built. It is designed for relaxing tours and pure enjoyment.

About Us Dealer Logo

Moon Motorsports

We are a group of enthusiasts and industry professionals fully committed to the powersports riding and ownership experience. We are passionate about riding and what makes the riding experience so unique and special. Simply put, we built the dealership that we, as riders, want to exist. Here’s how it began…

In 1955, Milo Moon, Sr. took over the Plymouth and DeSoto dealership in Monticello and named it Moon Motor Sales. Milo’s passion for motorcycles led him into the motorcycle sales and service business as well, eventually adding the Honda line of motorcycles in the early 1960s. He ultimately preferred the motorcycle business to cars and chose to focus on that, leaving the car business entirely, shortly after acquiring the Honda franchise.

By 1970, the time had come for Milo to explore other avenues. St. Cloud residents Denton and Marlys Erickson jumped at the opportunity to own their own business, and they and their three school-aged children relocated to Monticello. By January of 1971, Moon Motor Sales was incorporated and under the ownership of the Erickson family. Denton and Marlys’s son Jeff began working in the dealership’s service department after school at the age of 14, along with Milo’s grandson, Earl Moon, who to this day is still our senior technician. Jeff moved to the front of the store at age 18 and worked the front of the store with his dad, Denton, while Marlys performed administrative duties. In 1982, Jeff took over the role of General Manager and grew the business through the rest of the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Jeff’s sons Joel and Kyle joined the family business in the 1990s as well, working in the service department after school just as their dad had done a generation earlier. In a shocking and tragic event, the world lost Jeff Erickson to an automobile accident in 2003, leaving a family shattered and the fate of the dealership in question. Ultimately Joel and Kyle decided that the only way forward was to continue the legacy of their father and grandparents, and to continue to press on with the dealership; a task only made possible by a dedicated and seasoned Moon staff.

In 2008, the Ericksons completed construction of an all-new facility on the frontage of I-94 in Monticello. Now in their 51st year of business, the Erickson family continues to own and operate Moon Motorsports with the same dedication to performance, integrity, quality, and detail as the generations that came before. We invite you to to come and experience our combination of tradition-steeped, generations-old family business with industry-leading performance and one of the most dynamic and exciting product offerings available anywhere. We look forward to seeing you!
