Is anyone else wondering what Old Man Winter is up to this snowmobile season? For many, weather this winter has been a blessing, with mild temps and moderate snowfall. It is not too often that we experience 60-degree weather in the Twin Cities, during the month of February.
While it has been a pleasant change for some, the lack of snow that has accumulated and remained on the ground has been frustrating for us, the lovers of the snowmobile. We patiently (well, maybe not patiently) wait during the warm weather months. We hope for an early winter that brings plenty of snow and cold temps, to properly preserve our snow-covered playground. Although, we did have the opportunity for a little outdoor fun midway through the winter, it would have been nice if the snow would have stuck around.
What do you think? Is this it for the snowmobile season in the Twin Cities for 2017? Historically speaking, March can still bring us a nice amount of snowfall. While February was somewhat of a bust, there is still hope for a snow accumulating March! A few years ago, we experienced a relatively mild winter, but ended up with a decent amount snowfall that went into the month of May.
While the Twin Cities hasn’t been the best destination for snowmobiling in the last month, there is still hope. There are areas around the state that have snow and groomed trails. If you are looking for quick weekend getaway for a little fun in the snow, check out this listing of snow depth and groomed trail conditions at www.dnr.state.mn.us
Let’s just say that there is still hope for a few more months of quality snowmobile fun. When we do get more snow this month and you have an opportunity to hit the trails, where will you go? We would love to hear your favorite snowmobile hot spots, hidden gems, and amazing trails. Here’s to hoping that the snow flies and we can blaze a few more trails in 2017.
